SummerTerm Workshops 2018

I teach a range of workshops at my home in Southbourne or at St Peter's Place, the bright new hall for the church of St Peter and St Mary at Fishbourne near Chichester. Wherever workshops are held, the emphasis is on learning in a happy, relaxed environment, making the techniques taught accessible to beginners as well as those with some experience.

Larger events, alternative dates, or teaching of individuals can be arranged at other locations if required. You are very welcome to contact me to discuss your requirements.

Daytime workshops are priced according to length and venue - prices are shown below. Tea, coffee and a home made cake are always provided, please bring along a packed lunch if you're coming for the day to Fishbourne.

Evening workshops and Block of the Month classes are payable termly (see prices below) and include drinks and cake.

Unless otherwise instructed, participants should bring their own sewing machine, ensuring the machine has an up to date PAT test (this test can often be done very quickly at your local sewing machine shop). Most techniques can be taught by hand, but a sewing machine will speed up the process.

Fabric requirements will be sent on confirmation of booking

Please scroll to the bottom of this page for booking terms and conditions.

Jean Genie - Quilt As You Go Project

Thursday 19th April 2018   10am-3pm   Fishbourne   £35

Here's a great project for upcycling those old jeans and shirts, or use lightweight cotton fabrics of your choice for a more delicate result.

Either way, each square you make is a finished piece, so no basting or extra quilting required. It grows piece by piece as a finished item, with the back displaying a patchwork of colours.

Make one, it's a coaster! Make nine it's a cushion cover! Keep going for a play mat, quilt or picnic blanket.

Dresden Playday

Thursday 17th May 2018   10am-3pm   Fishbourne   £35

First popular in the 1920s and 30s, and inspired by decorative German porcelain, the Dresden plate pattern has moved into the 21st century! Come and learn how to make these colourful blocks for a stunning quilt.

Crazy Patchwork Frame Purse

Thursday 21st June 2018   10am-3pm   Fishbourne   £35

Learn two techniques in one day, and take home a lovely frame purse to store your bits and bobs in.

Crazy patchwork began with the Victorians, and is a great way to use up fabric scraps of any size or shape. Once you've made your crazy patchwork panels, I'll show you how to attach them to the purse frame to make a fully lined purse.

This roomy purse measures approx 15cm high x 15cm wide.

1 x 12cm purse frame included.

Fabric Weaving

Thursday 26th July 2018   10am-3pm   Fishbourne   £35

Here's something completely different - fabric weaving can produce accurate patchwork-style pieces with almost no sewing required!

Using fabric strips, learn to create woven panels which you can incorporate into a project of your choice.

Begin with a simple weave, then have a go at a more complex design. It's great fun watching the patterns emerge, and like many techniques, potentially addictive!

I also teach Patchwork Quilt Courses and one day classes at the lovely Clothkits shop in Chichester.

Autumn term workshops at Clothkits include a beginner's hexagon quilt course, and a one day "Crash Course" in Patchwork and Quilting. There's also the opportunity to join a weekly group for those wishing to work on individual projects under guidance in company.
